Chen Weixing, CEO of Kuaidi Dache, has announced that he wants to launch his own ride-sharing blockchain service to rival that of Uber. The new platform announced Sunday, at the 2018 Guiyang BigData Expo, will be developed by co-founder of Meituan Yang Jun and Weixing.
Weixing is no stranger to the ride-sharing world. His company, Kuaidi Dache, merged last year with arch-rival Didi Dache in 2015 to create Didi Chuxing. Then theymerged with Uber’s China unit to now dominate the ride-hailing provider in the country.
Reporting on the sidelines, from the Guiyang BigData Expo, Weixing said that “ride hailing is the first time blockchain will be tested on a social application on mass scale.” Weixing also sits as a CEO of Fun City and is a blockchain enthusiast having made investments in notable Chinese companies, which include Qtum, Tron, Binance, and Huobi.
In an article posted by Coin Telegraph, Weixing said, “I’ve been asking myself what’s the value of the blockchain. My definition is to see whether and where people can actually use it. With the use of blockchain, we can build a set of economic systems different from the previous ones. We can direct traffic from the Internet and add on different services to meet users’ needs.”
